Big 12 Plans To Play Football This Fall

The Big 12 announced that sports will be played this fall, even as the coronavirus pandemic continues to surge around the country. The decision comes one day after the Big Ten and the Pac-12 said they are postponing sports in the fall.

“Opinions vary regarding the best path forward, as we’ve seen throughout higher education and our society overall, but we are comfortable in our institutions’ ability to provide a structured training environment, rigorous testing and surveillance, hospital quality sanitation and mitigation practices that optimize the health and safety of our student-athletes,” Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said.

The conference released a revised schedule and said that conference games will begin on September 26. Teams will play nine games against conference opponents, and one game against a non-conference team.

The conference said it will allow individual schools to determine how many fans will be allowed in the stadium.
