Former NFL Team Doctor Breaks Down Patrick Mahomes' Status For AFC Title

Listen to former team physician with the San Diego Chargers, Dr. David Chao, join Outkick the Coverage to break down Patrick Mahomes’ injury, and detail the process of Mahomes attempting to get back to the field for this Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.

Mahomes exited Saturday’s Divisional Round game vs. the Browns after being tackled on a quarterback option play. Mahomes clearly appeared woozy after the tackle and needed to be held up by Chiefs’ linemen to keep his balance. However, it didn’t appear that Mahomes’ head made any contact with the defender’s helmet, or with the ground.

Some speculated that Mahomes had possibly even been ‘choked’ from the contact to his neck area during the process of the tackle, and the pressure put on nerves to that portion of his neck may have led to Mahomes’ slightly losing his balance when trying to get up.

His status still remains in ‘concussion protocol’, but it’s not completely certain a concussion was definitely the reason he left the game.

Check out the segment above as Dr. Chao details to Clay Travis what types of hurdles Mahomes will be looking to clear this week to return this Sunday to play Josh Allen and the Bills.
