Any Texas adult who wants to get the COVID-19 vaccine will be able to starting on Monday, March 29.

The state opened up the eligibility requirement so that anyone over the age of 18 can get the shot regardless of their occupation or underlying health conditions.

Vaccine providers are still being asked to prioritize adults 80 and older. These older Texas will be able to show up to any vaccine provider and receive a shot regardless if they have an appointment or not, KXAN reported.

“We are closing in on 10 million doses administered in Texas, and we want to keep up the momentum as the vaccine supply increases,” said Imelda Garcia, an infectious disease expert with the state.

“As eligibility opens up, we are asking providers to continue to prioritize people who are the most at risk of severe disease, hospitalization and death – such as older adults.”

The Texas Department of State Health Services said sometime next week it will launch a new website where Texans can schedule their vaccine appointments. It'll also launch a toll free number to help people without internet access schedule appointments.
