MLB Dropped the Ball by Not Featuring Shohei Ohtani on Opening Day

Today is Opening Day for Major League Baseball and Dan is stumped by the scheduler’s decision to hide Angles superstar Shohei Ohtani in Oakland against an A’s team that may be one of the worst teams in the league. After his recent dominating performance at the World Baseball Classic, he’s never had more drawing power and MLB should be featuring him against somebody like Aaron Judge and the Yankees in the national broadcast. Instead they squirreled him away in a late, west coast time slot against an uninteresting bottom dweller. This was clearly a lost opportunity for the league.

Dan Patrick: “If I’m scheduling Major League Baseball, and I go, ‘OK, who do people want to see?’ They want to see Aaron Judge and they want to see Shohei Ohtani, and maybe not in that order. Guess what the Angels’ Opening Day opponent is, or guess who? Of course, the Oakland A’s...in Oakland. Huh?!? Baseball’s done everything right and now you’re going to go, ‘No, let’s tuck him away.’  Oakland’s going to be one of the worst teams and Ohtani’s going to be the starting pitcher, you got to put him on display...People want to see Shohei Ohtani, you got momentum, people are interested, and he’s going to end up with a game against the Oakland A’s. Watch him throw a no hitter.”
