John Calipari Needs to Win, Not Develop Players for the NBA

Kentucky was upset by Oakland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and Dan wonders what the Kentucky fan base must think about their Head Coach, John Calipari. Calipari is fond of reminding everyone how many players he has sent to the NBA and how much money they’re making, but he’s only won one national championship with all of that talent and he’s dealing with another early exit this year. With the new N.I.L. and transfer rules, the era of one-and-done teams is past its time and maybe Calipari is too.

Dan Patrick: “The one-and-done feels like it’s past its time...The bottom line is not, ‘Hey, these guys were here for six months and look at all the money they’re making in the NBA!’ Tell that to the Kentucky fan base today. You’re paid to win there. They don’t care about the draft! When those kids are gone, they’re gone; new class coming in and your job is to win. And every time Coach Cal comes on he talks about the success of his players in the pros. Great! What was their success at Kentucky?”
