Yankees Will Ruin Their Team By Signing Pitcher Gerrit Cole to Record Deal

League Championship Series - New York Yankees v Houston Astros - Game Six
Jason Smith: “Some people are saying I’d be mad as a Mets fan if the Yankees sign Gerrit Cole but go ahead and spend $250 million – IT’S NOT GOING TO WORK OUT. There’s never been a pitcher who has gotten $175-$200 million who has worked out. Something always happens to make the last 3 or 4 years of that contract completely unattainable. GO DO IT! Starting pitching is way too much of a dice roll. You’ll wear it around your neck like it’s kryptonite.” (Full Audio at Bottom of Page)

Listen to Jason Smith explain why he thinks the New York Yankees are playing with fire if they go ahead and follow up with the swirling rumors involving ace starting pitcher Gerrit Cole signing with the championship-starved franchise who haven't won a World Series in a decade.

The 29-year-old Cole is coming off the best season of his career and one of the most dominant seasons of the decade, having just posted a 20-5 record with the Astros that included a 2.50 ERA and 326 strikeouts in 212.1 innings.

Jason says massive contracts to starting pitchers are the riskiest contract that there is in the sport, with record-breaking deals like the ones to David Price ($217 million), Clayton Kershaw ($215 million), and Felix Hernandez ($175 million) instantly becoming regrettable when those players suffered rapid declines. (Max Scherzer -- $210 million and Justin Verlander -- $180 million, were two pitchers who worked out).

Check out the audio below as New York Mets homer Jason Smith DARES the Yankees to sign Cole this winter.
