Jason Smith and Mike Harmon react to Alex Ovechkin scoring his 892nd goal, moving him just three goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal record. The guys dive into the significance of the record and share their thoughts on how they feel about such a legendary milestone about to be broken!
Jason Smith:
"The greatest record in hockey is about to be broken. This transcends sports—this is the greatest record in the sport, and even if people aren't hockey fans, they know about Wayne Gretzky and his goal record of 894. And here comes Alex Ovechkin, who’s been an NHL superstar. He’s 39 years old now, he’s won a Cup, he’s won Hart Trophies, he’s been First Team All-NHL, and this guy is going to end up with the record for most goals in NHL history. He’s now three goals away. And honestly, how I feel about this... I feel just meh!"
Mike Harmon:
"Who’s the guy that you elevate? For Gretzky, he’s the face of the game, and that’s for decades. Talk about how the game changes, the rules of engagement change, and how we look at it through the prism of, 'Right, the game wasn’t the same as it was then.' So, when records fall, we don’t hold them to the same level!
